Corbyn Head Memorial Service
11th August 2026 at 1100

That little piece of granite is the National Monument to the men who will forever be remembered
as 'Dad's Army'.

The national Home Guard memorial is in Torquay because it marks the night of a terrible tragedy when six men were killed and others were seriously injured during a training exercise.
The youngest was only 16 years old.

Witnesses recall a scene of devastation and chaos when the gun exploded.  They saw their friends and colleagues burned black, some killed outright and others in a state of intense shock, covered in blood and dazed.  They would die later.

On 11th August 2026 there will be a Remembrance Service at Corbyn Head, Torquay at 1100 to remember those who died in the tragic incident on the headland and to remember all those who served in the Home Guard during the Second World War.
