Over the years, our teams of fantastic volunteers have helped to raise many thousands of pounds for the Poppy Appeal. The record so far was raising £37,000 in one year from the sale of poppies and donations in Pershore and surrounding villages.  Thank you to all that help and, most importantly, to all those who donated.

The Poppy Appeal is the UK’s annual fundraising campaign by the Royal British Legion to support serving and ex-serving Armed Forces personnel and their families.

The Poppy Appeal, founded in 1921, is the Royal British Legion’s flagship campaign held every year in October and November to raise funds for veterans, serving personnel, and their families, providing support for any need, at any time. The campaign is closely linked to the red remembrance poppy, a symbol of Remembrance that honours those who have served and sacrificed in wars, inspired by the First World War poem In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae (See History Page). Wearing a poppy is a personal gesture of thanks and solidarity with the Armed Forces community.

Purpose and Impact

Funds raised through the Poppy Appeal enable the Royal British Legion to provide lifelong support, including financial assistance, mental health services, and practical help for veterans and their families.  The campaign relies on the generosity of the public and the efforts of tens of thousands of volunteers who collect donations across the UK. Contributions help ensure that support is available whenever it is needed, from short-term relief to long-term care.

How to Participate

Poppies are available in supermarkets, high street shops, train stations, and online through the Royal British Legion Poppy Shop

People can participate by wearing a poppy, donating, volunteering as a collector, taking part in fundraising events, or leaving a gift in their will to support the Armed Forces community. The simple act of wearing a poppy sends a meaningful message of remembrance and support, reinforcing the campaign’s role in uniting society to honour those who served.
