The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of Remembrance.

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

In 2011, the Holland Branch started a new tradition by organising the annual Remembrance Sunday at the Airborne Cemetery in Oosterbeek. This commemoration is very much appreciated not only by Legion members, but also by local officials and inhabitants. Since 2011 the Remembrance Sunday service has taken place every year.

We hope to see you all at this year's service which we take place on Sunday November 10, 2024 at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Oosterbeek.

Remembrance ceremonies throughout the year

The Holland Branch maintains strong and active in Remembrance ceremonies. There are Commonwealth War Cemeteries throughout The Netherlands and services take place at local cemeteries every November.

Liberation Day May the 5th

The Branch also participates in the Dutch ceremonies to celebrate the liberation of cities, towns, and villages throughout The Netherlands in 1944 and 1945 and the Victory in Europe in 1945. On these occasions, any British contingent plays a prominent role and the Holland Branch is proud to represent the British Forces. We are frequently joined by visiting parties of Old Comrades' Associations.
