Today, Ballyclare marked the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day with two special events that brought the community together in remembrance and celebration.
We began with a heartfelt Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial, joined by Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Mr Edward Montgomery MBE DL, The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick, Mr Robin Swann MP, Mrs Pam Cameron MLA and our local Councillors.
The short service of
remembrance, led by Rev Jonny Campbell-Smyth, and wreath-laying paid tribute to those who fought in the Far East and those who never returned home, ensuring their memory lives on in our community.
Later, we joined forces with Ollardale Community Group for a fantastic Tea Dance - and it was really well attended! There was plenty of dancing to a performance from Sam Stewart, laughter, and comradeship, making it a joyful tribute to the wartime generation and a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make the day so special.
Lest we forget.
