On behalf of the Branch President, myself, the Officers and Members of Ballyclare Branch of The Royal British Legion, a huge thank you to everyone who joined us on 8th May for our Act of Remembrance marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. It was a touching tribute to those who gave so much for peace and freedom during the Second World War and we really appreciate all the members of the community and veterans who came together to honour the courage and sacrifice from 80 years ago.
It was also fantastic to see the representation from our local schools, including Jack from Ballynure Primary School who played Last Post and Reveille beautifully on the cornet. We hope the schools are just as proud of their students that took part as we are.
Following the event, we were thrilled to honour two exceptional supporters. Reverend Jonny Campbell-Smyth received a Certificate of Appreciation for his steadfast support of the Branch as he organises and leads the religious part of all our Acts of Remembrance. The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Neil Kelly, was presented with a certificate of appreciation to recognise Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for their long-standing support, including ensuring the War Memorial Park is beautifully presented and the participation of the Mayor and Councillors in all our Acts of Remembrance.
We honestly couldn't hold our Acts of Remembrance throughout the year without these ongoing partnerships, thank you again.
Lest we forget.
Dennis Chirgwin, Branch Chairman
