News & Events

Dear members of the Ballyclare community,

On behalf of the Branch President, myself, the Officers, and Members of Ballyclare Branch of The Royal British Legion, I wish to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s Remembrance Sunday parades and services in Ballyclare and Ballynure.

This year’s events marked one of the most significant turnouts in recent memory, with over 60 wreaths and 45 crosses laid in Ballyclare alone. Such a powerful display of respect and remembrance speaks volumes about the strength of our community’s commitment to honouring those who served and sacrificed.

We were especially heartened by the presence of so many young people and representatives from our local schools. Their participation was not only moving but also reassuring by showing that the spirit of Remembrance is alive and well, and in good hands for the future.

Our sincere thanks go to Mrs. Pauline Shields, DL, for representing His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim, and to The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick, for her continued support along with our local MLAs and Councillors, whose attendance added dignity and unity to the occasion.

We were also honoured to welcome Robin Swann MP, who has been a tremendous support to us as a Branch and a strong voice for the veteran's community in Westminster.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Rev Jonny Campbell-Smyth and the local clergy for leading us in reflection and prayer. Their thoughtful words and spiritual guidance helped centre our remembrance in solemnity and hope, reminding us of the deeper meaning behind our gathering.

Together, we stood in solemn reflection, united across generations and backgrounds, to remember those who gave so much. Your presence and support ensure that their legacy endures, not just in ceremony, but in the everyday values we uphold as a community.

Yours sincerely,

Dennis Chirgwin

Branch Chairman
