Visit to Year 6 Pupils Saltwood Church of England Primary School
On the afternoon of Friday 12 June, our Branch Secretary - Sqn Ldr (Retd) John Healey MIH and Branch Standard Bearer, Alan Richardson, visited Saltwood Church of England Primary School. The purpose of the visit was to engage with Year 6 pupils and provide an informative and meaningful talk about the key aspects of the Battle of Britain, as well as to explain the important work carried out by the Royal British Legion (RBL).
During the session, John spoke to the children about the significance of the Battle of Britain, highlighting the courage and sacrifice of those who served during this crucial period of the Second World War. He also explained how remembrance remains an important part of community life today, ensuring that the contributions of past generations are never forgotten.
In addition, the pupils were introduced to the role and symbolism of the Branch Standard. Alan explained its historical importance, its use in commemorative events, and how it represents respect, honour, and continuity for those who have served.
The visit formed part of the Branch’s wider programme of community engagement, aimed at promoting remembrance and building awareness among younger generations. By bringing history to life in an accessible and engaging way, the Branch continues to strengthen its connection with the local community and inspire understanding of the values of service, sacrifice, and remembrance.
Overall, the visit was a valuable and rewarding experience for both the pupils and the Branch representatives, reinforcing the importance of education and outreach in preserving our shared heritage.
