West Felton

OCTOBER 2013 MEETING

West Felton branch met in the Punch Bowl on Monday 4th October.

Opportunities were offered for members to join various committees at national and county level and invitations to official conferences announced.

A notice was received for the SHROPSHIRE FESTIVAL OF REMEMBRANCE at Shrewsbury Abbey, Saturday 26th October, 7pm; tickets £6 on the door. All welcome.

COMMEMORATIVE PAVING STONES FOR VCs

It was confirmed that whilst he lived with his family at The Grange and left there to go to die on the Somme in 1916, the paving stone in honour of Wm Congreve MC, VC will be laid in Burton in the Wirral where he was born and where members of the Congreve family live.

POPPY APPEAL

Mike Johnson, Poppy Appeal Organiser, noted that plans for the October/November collection were well in hand but he would love to hear from more volunteers willing to be Poppy People. The branch sent condolences to Oswestry branch on the passing of their Chairman, George Lockhart.

AGM

The Annual General Meeting will be held on 4th Nov at the earlier time of 7:30pm. Nomination forms for the election of officers were handed out. Members’ annual subscriptions are now due; please remember to hand to Treasurer John Hanmer at the AGM.

Arrangements were made for the Remembrancetide services.

REMEMBRANCE EVENTS IN WEST FELTON  

REMEMBRANCE CONCERT Friday 8 November, 7.30pm 

for the Poppy Appeal, West Felton Village Hall. Tickets £5.Featuring the Orthopaedic Male Voice Choir and the Children of West Felton School led by Head Teacher Nicola Maddocks. Tickets from West Felton Stores or Legion members.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY SERVICE

Sunday 10 November, 10.15am at St Michael’s Church.  Please note there will be no service at the War Memorial on Sunday.

SCHOOL PARADE

Monday 11 November, 11am a service at the War Memorial when the children of West Felton school will honour The Fallen by placing a poppy for each of those named on the Memorial, witnessed by the people of  West Felton.

Everyone is welcome to all the above events and it is hoped that there will be a bigger crowd than ever to support the children’s service at the War Memorial on 11/11/2013.
