The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of Remembrance.

Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today

STOP PRESS: There are different arrangements for this year's Remembrance Day Parade and wreath laying ceremony - see below.

This year, on Sunday 8th November, the 2 minutes silence will be observed at 11am at the Civic Centre War Memorial , after which wreaths will be laid as part of a short service.

This will be preceded by a parade, stepping off at 10.15 from the Butter Cross, West Gate.
The route taken will be : West Gate, Westfield Lane, Rosemary St.

After the service the parade will reform for a march past in front of the Civic Centre for a final mark of respect & where a Deputy Lord Lieutenant will take the salute.

Everyone is welcome, particularly all veterans and serving personnel!

For anyone interested, there will be a short service in St Peter & St Paul's church at 9.30am prior to the parade.

Armistice Day has been observed every year since 1919 with a two-minute silence.

Held each year at 11am on 11 November, the silence coincides with the time in 1918 at which the First World War came to an end and is observed at war memorials and in public places throughout the UK and Commonwealth.

Short services will be held at the Old Town Memorial & Teardrop Memorial in Carr Bank Park at 11am.

Poppy Appeal Mansfield's appeal, this year, will be launched on Friday 23rd October at the Civic Centre, with stands & collections commencing on Saturday 25th October (2026). Further details can be found on our Poppy Appeal page.
