This section of our Website is intended for RBL Members

Safeguarding is an important issue for all of us, whether we are home visitors or Branch members, it covers the safeguarding of ourselves or others, especially those who are vulnerable to abuse; below you will find links to a number of documents issued by Head Office to inform and teach about this subject, please take some time to read these documents, you may, at some time need to know where to find this information.

Safeguarding Policy (Please follow this link for the full policy)

Safeguarding children and adults is everyone’s responsibility. It is a key priority for the Executive Board and the Boards of Trustees who are committed to a Safeguarding framework. This policy provides details and resources of our Safeguarding commitment and principles for the protection of all children and adults at risk (Vulnerable Adults), who come into contact with TRBL and our subsidiary charities, The National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) and Poppyscotland.
This statement reflects the legislative position on Safeguarding children and adults at risk. There are significant differences in the laws and policies that shape how we safeguard children and how we safeguard adults. The legal framework to protect children is contained in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2015) and for adults, the Care Act (2014). However, the overarching objective for both is to enable children and adults to live a life free from abuse or neglect.

Whistleblowing Policy (Please follow this link for the full policy)

This policy applies to all employees and officers of The Royal British Legion (“the Legion”).
Other individuals either performing functions in relation to the Legion such as trustees, volunteers, agency workers and contractors or Legion Members and beneficiaries, all collectively referred to as other relevant parties are encouraged to use this policy.
It is important to the Legion that any fraud, misconduct or wrongdoing by employees or officers is reported and properly dealt with. Therefore the Legion encourages all individuals to raise any concerns that they may have about the conduct of others in the organisation or the way in which the organisation is run. This policy sets out the way in which individuals and other relevant parties may raise any concerns that they have and how those concerns will be dealt with.

Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children Level One Awareness - Training (Please follow this link for the full training module)

Many thanks for taking the time to read through this information booklet.  This has been produced for those staff, members and volunteers who require a hard copy of the Roadmap e-learning modules, and provide a basic awareness we all need regarding our responsibilities regarding safeguarding and protecting adults and children’s who may at risk of harm, neglect or abuse.

TRBL is committed to ensuring that all of its staff, members and volunteers have the right information to enable them to spot when someone is in need of support, safeguarding or protection.  This awareness booklet is part of our commitment to you to enable you to help that person (child or adult).  Very often you might be the only person, or the right person at the right time that observes something that gives you concern for the safety or well-being of a client or a beneficiary.  Our message to you is that it’s ok to be concerned, and to have a conversation with someone who will be able to help and advise you on what to do.  This booklet is the start of that journey together and will help you understand:

  •  What is safeguarding and why is it important
  • How to identify some common safeguarding issues
  • What the legislation is that means we all have a duty to respond to harm, abuse and neglect

Lone Working and Personal Safety Guidance for Members (Please follow this link to the full document)

Whether it’s fundraising, helping out at Remembrance events or being a shoulder to lean on – as members you regularly contribute to making sure that the Legion is able to deliver services for our serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. Due to the nature of these activities, members can often find themselves working alone in their communities.

We want to ensure that whilst you are working on behalf of the Legion in your local communities, you are confident to undertake support and keep safe as there are many times when you will  be alone.
