The Poppy Appeal in Eastbourne
The Poppy Appeal in Eastbourne is an important annual campaign led by The Royal British Legion, supporting the Armed Forces community, veterans, and their families.
Purpose and Meaning
The Appeal raises vital funds to provide lifelong welfare support for serving personnel, veterans, and their families. This includes assistance with financial hardship, housing support, and access to mental health and wellbeing services.
The poppy remains a powerful symbol of remembrance. Wearing a poppy is a way of honouring the service and sacrifice of those who have lost their lives in conflict, as well as recognising all who have served.
The Eastbourne Appeal
The Eastbourne Poppy Appeal typically runs from late October through to Remembrance Day on 11 November, with official launch activities beginning around 23 October.
The Appeal is delivered through the dedication of local volunteers, including veterans, members of the public, and youth organisations such as the Army Cadets, Sea Cadets, and Royal Marines Cadets.
Community Impact
The Eastbourne community continues to demonstrate outstanding support for the Appeal. In 2025, the town raised a record-breaking £123,000, significantly exceeding the previous year’s total of approximately £96,000. This achievement reflects the commitment and generosity of local residents and volunteers.
