SDC Parking is available in the Church Street Car Park,  next to the Windmill Inn, just 200 yards from the Royal British Legion Club.  Charges are 24 hours a day 7 days a week, however Blue Badge holders are free and there is a £2 Evening charge from 4 pm - 8 am.   There is a height restriction as the exit headroom is only just over 6 feet.

STRATFORD UPON AVON RBL BRANCH INTERIM CHAIRMANS REPORT       

21 July 2026.

Chairmans Statement:   We are over four months into the financial year and post-the Armed Forces Day Civic event on 27th June, held in the much-improved Garden of Remembrance, attended by the Mayor Cllr Sam Mc Naught Barrow, fellow Councillors and dignitaries including the Deputy Lord Lt Simon Miesagaes, the Commanding Officer Kineton Station and the RSM with Stratford Veterans and locals alike.                                   

I have been recently re-elected as Branch Chair and as anticipated, as with previous years in the RBL Branch will endeavour in supporting and participating in Civic events. Our relationships with the Townhall, the Royal Engineer Association (REA) and our local MP Manuela Perteghella have developed in a positive and professional manner. Recently I was delighted to welcome the Deputy Lord Lieutenant Simon Miesagaes and the Mayor of Stratford Town Cllr Sam Mc Naught Barrow to the Civic Armed Forces Day event held in the Garden of Remembrance.

OP RESTORE: Is the restoration and maintenance of the RBL Branch benches in the Gardens of Remembrance. The maintenance and painting of both the woodwork and metalwork of the benches and commemorative plaques is an ongoing Branch volunteer driven project. The SDC served a Public Space Protection Order in SUA Town including the Gardens of Remembrance. The RBL Branch as motioned for permanent signage to be displayed on the gates “No alcohol to be consumed in the Gardens” and “No overnight Vagrancy” this is an effort to reduce the ANTI Social Behaviour Visitors and Locals have experienced. 

Medal Case refurbishment update. The case felt background as been replaced with new green Blaise and the medals have been cleaned and set out in chronological order. The Branch currently awaiting refurbished medals back from Worcestershire Medals company. These medals shall also be mounted and displayed in the Medal case. Military Framed paintings and Regimental Plaques now surround the medal case in an endeavour to create a much need Remembrance Corner within the Legion Club.

OP RV : The planned refurbishment of the RBL Meeting Room is ongoing,  It was anticipated the room will be cleaned and painted by Branch volunteers before Armed Forces Day. The Paint and other materials have been kindly donated and more suitable chairs are now being sought. The aim is to provide the RBL building with a clean, lockable room for both Club and Branch meetings and a secure room to store Branch Flags and accoutrements.

The RBL Branch will purchased a Canadian National Flag and flagstaff. The Flag will be carried at both the Remembrance Sunday Service in November and the Armistice Service in the Commonwealth Service 11 November 2026 held in Evesham Commonwealth WG Cemetery.

There has been over the past year further purchases of Parade Gauntlets & Standard Bearers uniforms. This improvement of appearance as been reflected in the number of photos appearing in Local media and social media.

We received from our Local MP, Manuela Perteghella, a Letter and Parliamentary Motion in support of the SUA RBL Branch. Both the letter and the Motion has been framed and hung in the refurbished RBL Club Meeting Room.

Currently the RBL are monitoring the Armed Forces Army Reserve Pension Case, which is being appealed by the MOD UK. This is regarding of non-payment of Pensions to Service Personnel who served as Mobilised TA / AR in IRAQ 2003 and subsequent Operations overseas. The Appeal hearing was held in Glasgow, December 2025, the Judge dismissed the MOD UK Appeal.
