Hello and welcome to the July edition of The RBL Stourbridge Branch’s newsletter 2026.
About a dozen members battled through the heat to attend this month’s branch meeting, which was held on the 8th July, a big thankyou to all those who came along, especially Mick Sage calling in from Thailand although he could hardly hear us due to the monsoon rain beating down on his roof. We also welcomed Amanda and Paul from Amblecote, who came along to see how we do business. There is no meeting in August so the next one will be Wednesday 9th September, 20.00 at The Old Edwardians Club, Drury Lane, just off Market Street, Stourbridge, all branch members are welcome to attend.
A reminder that the next Veterans’ Breakfast is on Saturday 19th September, not the 12th as previously advertised, and the one after that is the 28th of November, callings will go out 3 to 4 weeks prior to these dates. If you are a veteran and have not been contacted by us but would like to attend, please get in touch with either myself or Sue, the treasurer, details below. This informal event, which takes place at the Old Edwardians Club is where a group of likeminded people meet to enjoy a discounted breakfast, socialise and raise some money for the charity through the raffle. The cost of the breakfast is £10, and we will need to know if you wish to attend no later than the Wednesday before each event. A big thank you, as always, to Tim, Tracy and the team for their continued support of these events.
There will be new champions crowned at the skittles evening as Bill and John (The Booties) are running scared and will not be defending their title! The book is now closed and, as a reminder to the 20+ we have signed up, the event takes place this Friday the 10th July at The Queens Head on Enville Street from 18.30.
The first Remembrance Parade briefing took place at the ARC, Swinford Rd, on Wednesday 17th June 2026, the event was well attended by various members of the community, and much was discussed. No date has been set for the next meeting but watch this space. A big thankyou goes to WO2 Antoni Suchomski (Nick) who has done a sterling job in the organisation of the Remembrance Parade over many years and has now retired. Enjoy your retirement mate, you deserve it.
Parkfield Grange Care Home, 31 Hagley Rd, Stourbridge, continue to welcome us hosting Veterans Coffee Mornings on the 2nd Tuesday and last Thursday of each month 10.30-12.00. The next few are 25th June 14th and 30th July there is no charge for these events which are open to all - no need to book just turn up. Thanks once again to Emily and her team for being so welcoming and looking after us.
Amblecote RBL Club have reached out to the Stourbridge Branch to see if we can have closer ties with them. Discussions are ongoing as to how this relationship will develop, but in the meantime all Legion members are welcome at their Club, School Drive, Amblecote, DY8 4DQ just show your membership card and you will be welcomed in.
Happy birthday to us! Next March the Stourbridge Branch of the RBL will be 105 years old! As nobody had noticed our 100th birthday four years ago we did nothing to mark the occasion, so to make amends we intend to have a celebratory lunch at Stourbridge Golf Club on Saturday 20th March 2027, timings and cost tbc. Put a note in your diary and we’ll see you there.
