A Poppy cross prepared by John Garfield and taken to Thailand in Feb 2024 by a friend of his and placed at and near the Hellfire Pass memorial in Thailand.

Hellfire Pass, a cutting, was a particularly difficult section of the Burma railway, 25 m deep and 75m long. Sixty-nine men were beaten to death by Japanese guards in the six weeks it took to build the cutting, many more died from cholera, dysentery, starvation, and exhaustion.
