Shipston On Stour

Following a short service of dedication at the War Memorial in front of St Edmund's Church, Wednesday 16 September 2009 saw the successful launching of the book "Shipston Remembers".

Researched and published by our member Mike Wells, the book tells the stories of the men on the Town's War Memorials - where they were born, what schools they went to, which regiments they served in, where they served, how and where they died and where they are buried. Included are photographs of the men themselves and their grave stones.

It is an extremely interesting and fascinating read and, of course, very moving as well.  Additional facts are included plus references to more men with a Shipston connection only.

Since the first and second editions were published in 2009 several new sources of information have become available. Both the 1911 and 1921 censuses have become available, as has the 1939 Register, which was effectively a census taken right at the outbreak of WW2. Data from these, plus lots of additional pieces of info have been added and have now been published as the 3rd Edition.

It is over 200 pages long in A5 size and is a must for the bookshelves of all who have an interest in our town.

Copies can be obtained for a £12 donation and £3.30 to cover P&P from the Chairman,
