Alan Mak, Founder and Chairman of the Branch has been selected as an Olympic Torchbearer. He will be carrying the Torch at 1115 on 20 June 12 in Beadle (Market Place & Bridge Street), a few miles from his home town of York, on Day 33 of the nationwide Torch Relay.

Alan was selected because of his work for the Royal British Legion, as well as for Magic Breakfast, a charity which provides a free, healthy breakfast to 6,000 British primary school children every morning in 210 schools across the UK.

Alan said, "I'm very proud to be carrying the Olympic Torch in Bedale. I hope my involvement will raise awareness of the Royal British Legion's work to support our veterans and their families in Bedale and across the country. We have the best Armed Forces in the world, and young professionals in Britain have a key role to play in ensuring that younger servicemen and women, especially those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, are looked after when they come home. Our Armed Forces and Legion volunteers are a great inspiration to me and I'll be thinking of them when I carry the Torch in the beautiful market town of Bedale in my home county of Yorkshire."
