ANZAC Day 2026

The Morecambe & Heysham ANZAC Day Commemorative Service was once again held in Torrisholme Cemetery, Westgate, Morecambe on Saturday 25th April 2026 at 12-00 noon which was attended by Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, Helen Bingley OBE, alongside the Lancaster City Mayor, Cllr. Margaret Pattison, the Branch President, Mrs Maree Brown and the Lancashire County Chairman, Mr Andrew Taylor.

The Royal British Legion Lancashire County Standard was carried by the Deputy County Standard Bearer alongside the Morecambe & Heysham Branch Standard Bearer and Standard Bearers from the local Royal Naval Association, the Submariners Association, the Merchant Navy Association and the RAF Association under the direction of the Royal Logistics Corp Parade Marshal.

The Service was led by the Branch Chaplain Rev. Chris Krawiec and the Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Mr Stuart Bateson of Morecambe Brass Band who also provided the musical accompaniment for the hymn and National Anthem. 

Wreaths were laid at the grave of Flt. Lt. Jack Wilson (RNZAF) on behalf of the Royal New Zealand Air Force by Lt. Cdr. RN (Ret'd) Nick Baxter, and on behalf of the Australian Defence Force by Lt Cdr. James Ferrari of the Royal Australian Navy. Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Members of the Morecambe & Heysham Branch of the RBL by the Branch President Mrs Maree Brown, on behalf of the Members of the Bay Veterans Association by Mr Melvin Shaw, and on behalf of his family who served at Gallipoli by Dr. Graham Blick of the Rhodesian Services Association of Western Australia.

All the attendees were invited to a reception at The York, where the Branch is based, and enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch provided by the licensees, both of whom also serve on the RBL Morecambe & Heysham Branch Committee.
