A two-minute silence has been observed across the UK to remember the nation's war dead.  An estimated 600 hundred people gathered at Greenhead Park to commemorate Armistace Day 2016.

Red poppies stood out from the dark clothing worn by veterans, religious groups and school children as they stood around the town’s war memorial to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in service.

The Vicar of Huddersfield, the Rev Simon Moor, led the service, at which Ian Fillan, president of Huddersfield Veterans also spoke about the importance of retaining the day’s relevance through younger generations.

Different dignitaries, other officials, group representatives and school children then stepped forward and laid their wreaths.

Veterans were treated to an Armistice Day lunch at Sainsbury's, Shore Head, Huddersfield, as a thank you for their fundraising on behalf of the British Legion’s poppy appeal. Richard Brook, president of the Huddersfield branch of the British Legion, said the event was unique across the country and attracted more veterans each year.
