Minutes of Colerne RBL Meeting – 2 Sep 26
1. The Chair opened the meeting with 6 members present. Apologies had been received from Mark Miller, Kay Hall and Jack Robson.
2. There were no comments on the minutes of the previous meeting.
3. The financial position was not reported but post meeting the Treasurer provided an update. The balance as at 30 June was £3824.76 with no significant movements since then; £600 of this was RBL grant money. The Chair advised that there some additional cash funds awaiting deposit.
4. Ceremony of the Keys (Fri 18 Dec). Tom updated the meeting. 14 slots had been filled and plans were well advanced.
5. Veterans’ Dinner (Fri 9 Oct). The Chair updated that 7 had registered interest and he would contact the Camp Welfare team to follow up on reserving a table.
6. Veterans’ Breakfasts. The Chair proposed events in September and December and agreed to confirm dates with Colin at the Fox and Hounds.
7. Remembrance Planning. Tom relayed an update from Kay on the Poppy Appeal (all on track) and confirmed the plans for November. He had contacted the RSM, the Pipe Band major, the choir were booked and he would ensure the details were passed into the Parish Magazine. He also outlined his intent to refresh the Poppy cascade, with new netting purchased – meeting members offered to support the process of stripping the current knitted poppies off the old net and affixing them to the new one (date tba).
8. Grave Mowing. Jim updated and stated a likelihood that the grass would need doing a number of times before November.
9. Tree maintenance. The Chair noted a need to replace one dead tree in Frank’s Wood and also to trim the Elizabeth trees. He would investigate options for the latter and Tom stated he had a replacement for the former. The meeting noted that there would be a need for a maintenance work party in October to do some ground clearance ahead of Remembrance.
10. Summer Social. The meeting agreed that we would not proceed with the originally planned social.
11. Future events & Parish Magazine notices. The following points were noted:
a. Saturday 19th September – Veterans’ Breakfast at the Fox and Hounds.
b. Wednesday 7th October - Branch Meeting at 8pm (Liberal Club).
c. Wednesday 4th November - Branch Meeting at 8pm (Liberal Club).
d. Saturday 14th November - Veterans’ Breakfast at the Fox and Hounds.
12. DONM – Wednesday 7th October at 2000.
