Minutes of Colerne RBL Meeting – 4 Feb 26

1.     The Chair opened the meeting with 7 members present

2.     There were no comments on the minutes of the previous meeting. Actions regarding bidding for RBL ‘gizzits’ and submission of the MS1 were noted as complete. Regarding the drafting of citations for RBL awards, the meeting noted the Secretary’s apologies and agreed that the action should be carried over for this year.

3.     The financial position is £3424.76 with a further £65 due from the Six Bells Christmas Quiz and circa £44 from the last Veteran’s Breakfast at the Fox and Hounds.

4.     Property Register. The property register was approved.

5.     Veterans Breakfast. The next event was agreed as 14 Feb subject to Al agreeing it with Colin. Looking forward to April it was agreed to try and secure the 18 or 11 April as a date, thereby allowing it to be entered into the Parish Magazine.

6.     Jean Tilley Funeral. The Chair outlined the plan for available branch members to support as a guard of honour; the funeral is at 11am on 11 Feb. Re our support to funerals, Tom mentioned he had seen a black bow arrangement that could be fitted to the standard when attending a funeral elsewhere; he offered to investigate further as the meeting agreed it would be a good use of Branch funds.

7.     AOB. The Chair then circulated a draft letter to our Member of Parliament and Branch member, Dr Brian Mathew. The letter was regarding a recent vote in the House on the Northern Ireland Legacy Act. Members in attendance were of the clear view that Brian’s vote in favour of the bill was a deep disappointment and that the letter, as written should be sent on behalf of the Branch. There was a discussion regarding whether it should be a private letter or a Branch official one and there was unanimous agreement that the nature and potential impact of the bill warranted it being an official letter. The Draft is at Annex A. Finally, the meeting agreed to cc the letter to neighbouring branches in our parliamentary constituency

8.     DONM – Wednesday 4th March at 2000.
