The Royal British Legion Remembrance

Remembrance Sunday presents a national opportunity to honour the service and sacrifice of all individuals who have defended our freedoms and safeguarded our way of life. This occasion prompts reflection on the Armed Forces and their families from Britain and the Commonwealth, as well as the critical contributions made by emergency services and those who have lost their lives due to conflict or terrorism.

The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of remembrance. The act of defending and protecting the nation’s democratic freedoms often incurs significant costs for those who serve. Such costs may be physical, mental, or emotional; they may include lost time with loved ones or the pressures inherent to military service. These factors highlight the importance of commemorating service, a practice that is observed annually.

This year, as in previous years, Veterans, Service Personnel, and local uniformed groups will participate in a parade from the War Memorial to the Town Hall. Plans are progressing well, with the Town Council collaborating with the Chippenham Royal British Legion to ensure a meaningful observance.

This year, Remembrance Sunday will take place on the 9th of November.

Following the parade, a roast dinner will be offered at The Unity Lodge, located on Emery Lane in Chippenham. Further details regarding this event will be provided in due course.

Additionally, we organise several events throughout the year. For further information, please visit our new Facebook page.
