Capt. G S Sutton MC

This Memorial to Captain Geoffrey S. Sutton MC was placed here by his family.  His parents were Mr W. Storrs Sutton and Katherine Sutton, a family of industrialists of influence who lived in Southport but had links with Carlisle.  Captain Sutton died on 23rd of March 1918 at the age of 23.  He was serving with 19th Bn Kings (Liverpool) Regiment.  He is interred in Savy British Cemetery, Aisne, grave I.H.29.

Capt. Noel. M. Saunders

Captain Saunders died on 20th October 1918 in the final weeks of the war.  The German Army had launched one last attempt to break the Allied line. They were unsuccessful and were driven back on their last defensive position, the Hindenburg Line. Captain Saunders, 35 years of age, was killed in action while serving with 7th (Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomany) Bn Border Regiment.  He was the son of Rev C M and Mrs Saunders, and the husband of Norah Saunders, of "Jorepokri", Wetheral. He died on the day the Allied forces took Amerval and Le Cateau and is interred in Amerval Communal Cemetery, in grave A.9.
