The Branch Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 13th October 2020 in the Carlisle ex-Services Men's Club starting at 7.30pm sharp. All members have been notified by Email or post.

 EMAIL OR POST?

If you receive correspondence from the BRANCH by post, it is because we do not hold an identifiable Email Address for you. If you have an email address, it will save the Branch considerable expense if you would send an email to tony@parrini.co.uk so that it can be added to the Branch Email Group. WE UNDERTAKE TO ENSURE THAT NO ONE OTHER THAN THE BRANCH SECRETARY WILL BE NOTIFIED OF YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, UNLESS YOU GIVE PERMISSION TO DO SO. ALL EMAIL IS SENT OUT “BLIND” COPY EXCEPT MAIL BETWEEN ELECTED COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

PLEASE GIVE TONY YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS NOW!!

DO YOU LIVE ALONE OR ARE YOU HOUSEBOUND?

The new BRANCH COMMUNITY SUPPORT (BCS) scheme is gradually being implemented and will include a “Phone Buddy” contact system to ensure that those members who for good reasons cannot attend meetings, are contacted or visited at least once every 2 months.

You will be contacted shortly to renew previous authority to make your details known to coordinators for your area. Those on Email by Email and those not "on-line" in writing (IT HAS TO BE A WRITTEN AUTHORITY FOR INSURANCE AND NEW GDPR REASONS.) A member living in your postcode area will then contact you and arrange a regular call or visit. We hope that this scheme will help fulfil the Branch’s commitment to looking after the welfare of its members.

Our local Welfare Caseworker is SUE KAVENEY but all requests for WELFARE ASSISTANCE MUST BE MADE VIA 0808 802 8080 in the first instance.

BRANCH DIRECTORY

There is no longer a printed Branch Directory to accord with the new GDPR Regulations.

All non welfare enquires should be made through the Branch Secretary, Tony Parrini - 07809-154999 in the first instance or by email to tony@parrini.co.uk

WEBMASTER

Our New Webmaster is keen to receive information relevant to the support of the Carlisle and Stanwix Branch and it's involvement with the local community. If you have suitable information for publication, please email the material to Simone Isherwood carlislestanwixwebmaster@gmail.com

THE WORLD WAR ONE MEMORIALS PROJECT.

Some 72 locations have been identified in the Carlisle City Administrative area where there is at least one WW1 Memorial. For those with access to the internet, please look at the Branch Website as shown on the front page and then “WW1 Heroes Walks of Honour” where you will see evidence of the  great amount of work that has gone into this project. A printed 24 page brochure will be available from 20th March. If you would like a copy, please send a cheque for £2-50 or more, made payable to ”RBL Carlisle and Stanwix Branch” to the Branch Secretary. Any profits will earmarked for future reprints.

CARLISLE’S NEW GARDEN OF REMEMBRANCE

THE MEMORIAL GARDEN

Garden Of Remembrance

A quiet area has been created in front of the main doors of St Cuthbert’s Church and designated as a Garden of Remembrance. The Branch Members have funded a stone ringed area where Remembrance Crosses and other tributes can be placed at any time. In the same way as Remembrance Crosses in London are placed in the hallowed grounds of Westminster Abbey and not at the Cenotaph, it hoped that the people of Carlisle will use the Garden of Remembrance rather than leaving Remembrance Crosses at the City Centre War Memorial.

POPPY SHOP IN THE LANES

Poppy Shop 5

With the help of the management of The Lanes Shopping Centre, the Branch establishes a Poppy Shop in The Lanes during the Poppy Appeal. This is a retail outlet for Poppy Shop Items normally only available on-line or from the Poppy Shop Catelogue. We sell in the region of £9,000 worth of goods each year and take donations of almost £6000.

If you have retail experience and would like to assist with 3 hour shifts between 27th October 2018 and 10th November 2018, please email tony@parrini.co.uk with your contact details.
