Liberation of the Falklands, Rose Gardens Bury St Edmunds

When Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands on 2nd April 1982, the British government dispatched a naval Task Force within days to reclaim the territory.
The 74-day campaign, fought 8,000 miles from home, saw some of the most intense close-quarters combat British forces had experienced since the Second World War.
The Parachute Regiment, Royal Marines, Scots Guards, Welsh Guards, Gurkhas, and many other units all played their part in the grueling advance across the islands in brutal winter conditions.
The campaign was not without devastating loss, the Sir Galahad attack at Bluff Cove, the battles at Goose Green and Mount Longdon, and the sinking of several Royal Navy vessels left deep and lasting scars.
Argentine forces surrendered on 14th June 1982, and 255 British servicemen had given their lives to return the islands to British sovereignty.
