A word from the Chairman of the Alicante Branch of The Royal British Legion

Welcome to the Alicante Branch Web page, I hope that you find the information provided informative and enjoy the regular updates. I would like to thank our Branch Web Master Hamish McConnachie for setting up and maintaining this account. I would like to encourage you to send articles and photographs to Hamish.

About The Royal British Legion

Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.

The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Members get together through the network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas to participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities. In Spain the Alicante Branch are here to administer and deliver community support within the Alicante area and to assist the District Community Support Coordinator.

The Legion provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.

We are very proud of our Branch, during the period 2019 -2022 the Branch has been recognised for its outstanding work on behalf of TRBL, at the Annual National Conference of TRBL which was held in September 2020, the Alicante Branch received the McCrae Shield which is awarded to one of the 87 Overseas Branches that during the year has demonstrated and achieved the most progress and has also increased its Branch membership, and is of a high standard of efficiency as determined by TRBL Membership Council. The Alicante Branch were also the winners of the prestigious Haig Cup, the Haig Cup is awarded for Efficiency and Progress (Large Branch)

Also, in January of this year I was very pleased to accept the District Chairman’s Bugle at the Annual District Conference for the third year in succession , the Chairman’s Bugle is the top District award presented by the District Chairman annually to the Branch that has made the greatest advances in furthering the aims and objectives of the Legion, an award that the Branch is justifiably very proud to have received, the Branch also received the Recruitment Kukri again for the third year in succession presented in January at the Annual District Conference, this award is presented to the Branch that has the best Membership percentage increase across District Spain North within the last twelve months. So, as you can see in my opinion as the Branch Chairman you have joined the best Branch in District North Spain and arguably overseas. I can also confirm that the Alicante Branch is now the largest Branch in District North Spain. A full list of our Awards can be found at our awards section.

Membership is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and give support for those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not. We now have multi national members as far afield as Cyprus, Germany, Belgium, France, UK and of course Spain.

Legion membership ensures that;

· Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten;

· The ex-Service community have a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye.

Becoming a member also provides the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities and events in Spain District North, and nationally throughout the year. You will see a list of activities within the Forecast of Events.
