Join the Legion’s army of volunteers this Poppy Appeal

Over 350,000 volunteers needed for annual fundraising drive

The Royal British Legion is looking for enthusiastic, hard-working volunteers for this year's Poppy Appeal, which runs from early October to Armistice Day, and is asking people anywhere in Nottinghamshire to get in touch.

The charity is also looking for people to become Poppy Appeal Organisers. This vital fundraising role - which involves coordinating a group of Poppy Appeal Collectors in the local area - is not only a great way of supporting the Armed Forces past and present, and their families, it's also an opportunity to boost personal and professional skills.

The Legion would particularly like to engage young volunteers to come forward, to make a new generation aware that the Poppy Appeal supports serving and ex-Service people from recent conflicts. The charity has already seen take up by University groups and Youth Associations, and it is hoped this success is recreated in Nottinghamshire.

The Legion's Director of Fundraising, Charles Byrne, said: "Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Poppy Appeal and contribute enormously to the charity year-round through a variety of roles. We depend on 350,000 volunteers each year to help raise vital funds for the Armed Forces community.

"Last year, over £600,000 was raised in Nottinghamshire.  This year we hope to generate even more vital funds by recruiting additional volunteers to join the team."
