44th Anniversary of the End of The Falklands' War

Falklands War Commemoration Service – Hythe War Memorial

On Friday, 12 June 2026, Branch Members, the Deputy Mayor of Hythe, Councillor Nicki Stuart, and members of the public gathered at the Hythe War Memorial to mark the 44th anniversary of the end of the Falklands War.

The service was led by the Branch Chairman and Branch Chaplain. In keeping with Branch tradition, the Chairman began by honouring two of Hythe’s fallen commemorated on the War Memorial—Private Albert Francis Cloke and Private Frederick Phillip Cloke.

The Branch Chaplain opened proceedings with a welcome. This was followed by a bible reading, a recitation of South Atlantic Winds by Branch Committee Member Barry Vincer, and then formal Exhortation delivered by the Branch Chairman. The Last Post was played by John of the City of Canterbury Band, followed by a two-minute silence and Reveille. The Branch Chairman then delivered the Kohima Epitaph.

Wreaths were laid by representatives including:

  • Councillor Nicki Stuart on behalf of Hythe Town Council
  • Branch President Joe Moran
  • Ben Sharp representing the Royal Navy
  • Branch Chairman Ian Norman representing the Scots Guards
  • Branch Secretary Sqn Ldr (Red) John Healey MIH on behalf of the Royal Air Force

Following the service, attendees gathered at Henry’s Wine Bar to reflect and raise a toast to “Absent Friends and Fallen Comrades.”
