About The Royal British Legion
Founded in 1921, the Legion is not just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many conflicts since 1945 and those still fighting for the freedom we enjoy today.
The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading Armed Forces charity and one of its largest membership organisations. Members get together through the network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas to participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities. In Spain the Alicante Branch are here to administer and deliver community support within the Alicante area and to assist the District Community Support Coordinator.
The Legion provide financial, social and emotional care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces - past and present and their families. The Legion is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces and is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.
Alicante Branch meets at 12:30 pm on the 1st Thursday of the month, even numbered months in El Campello at The International Club and odd numbered months in Castalla at the Casa de Cultura. All meetings are followed by a Social Lunch within the local area.
The Alicante Branch were selected to receive two awards at the 2000 District Conference held in Alicante in January. The first award was the District Chairman’s Bugle which is the top award presented by the District Chairman annually to the Branch that has made the greatest advances in furthering the aims and objectives of The Royal British Legion, the second award, the Recruitment Kukri is presented to the Branch that has the best Membership percentage increase across District Spain North within the last twelve months, I’m very pleased to say that the Alicante Branch has more than tripled it’s membership. All members are working extremely hard to retain both awards in 2021, and as such we are all justifiably very proud to have received both awards.
Membership is open to everyone. If you have an interest in the objectives of the Legion and want to help and support for those who have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not. We now have malty national members as far afield as Cyprus, Germany, Belgium, UK and of course Spain.
Legion membership ensures that;
- Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten;
- The ex-Service community have a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye.
Becoming a member also provides the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities and events in Spain District North, and nationally throughout the year. You will see a list of activities within the Forecast of Events.
