Branch members together with friends and supporters will be keeping a vigil at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial from sunrise to sunset on 31 October.

The site of the Menin Gate was chosen because hundreds of thousands of officers and men passed through it on their way to the battlefields. The Menin Gate is one of four memorials to the missing in Belgian Flanders which cover the area known as the Ypres Salient and commemorates over 54000 officers and men who died whose graves are not known.

The memorial, designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield with sculpture by Sir William Reid-Dick and was unveiled by Lord Plumer on 24 July 1927.

Four people will keep watch every half hour from 8 am to 8 pm.  Members wishing to participate are asked to contact the Secretary.
