On Thursday 8th May 2025 Wetherby & District Branch was pleased to organise Wetherby's VE Day Event.

The day started with The Proclamation being read from the Town Hall steps by Wetherby's Town Crier, resplendent in scarlet tunic.

This was followed by a short church service led by Churches together in Wetherby, with anecdotes from veterans, two of whom joined us on the Town Hall steps together with our local MP Mr Alec Shellbrooke, Officers, members, and Standard Bearer of Wetherby & District Branch.

A two minute silence gave everyone a chance to reflect on the sacrifice made by all those who did not return to join in the celebrations 80 years ago. 

Our Guest Singer then gave a moving rendition of "I vow to thee my Country" before we all retired into the Town Hall for tea, coffee, & cakes, and more songs of the era from our guest singers.

Much hard work from our members and helpers throughout the morning, and superb support from the people of Wetherby.

The Coffee Morning, Tombola, and Poppy Stall raised over £1,300 for the Poppy Appeal.

Thanks again to the generosity and support of the people of Wetherby.

And a special thanks to The Wetherby Whaler for sponsoring our room hire costs.

DDay80

The Branch was proud to organise a Coffee Morning in Wetherby Town Hall on 6 June 2024 to commemorate DDay80.  A very busy morning, we met lots of friends, old and new, and raised a substantial amount for the Poppy Appeal.

Thank you to all who helped to make it such a success in so many ways, and thank you to the people of Wetherby, and beyond, who called in to support us.
