west felton ww1 commemorations

St Michael’s Church West Felton,

Sunday 22 June 2014

 from Colleen Hughes

The joint PCC and Legion committee wishes to record their deep gratitude to everyone who contributed so generously of their time, labour and treasure to make this event successful. We believe it was a fitting tribute to the families whose suffering started one hundred years ago this year.

My quest for memorabilia has caused many an attic to be raided, medals polished and the old stories told to family members who knew little or nothing about what their grandfathers and great grandfathers did in 1914-18.

All who contemplated the array of burial places depicted and the stories of lifelong suffering bravely borne will carry the memory with them over the next four years while the nation commemorates.

I leave it to one of our generous supporters and guests to sum up the occasion:

 Hi All

Sunday was such a wonderful community and pleasurable effort. It’s a pity you didn’t have a photographer on hand to record it, I think what was achieved was something that should be replicated in Oswestry Itself and surrounding villages.

I think West Felton, should be held up as an example of a wonderful community.

I feel it would be wonderful to see other communities adopting the same events.
