Welwyn Garden City

Branch history

The Welwyn Garden City Branch was officially formed on 19th March 1926 although local membership of the Legion has existed since 1922.

Our first recorded member was Sgt H.E. Smart of the Kings Royal Rifles. He served in France from 1915 - 1918 and India from 1919 - 1923.

In March 1930 the Branch had 531 members.

A Womens' Section was formed in September 1931.

The Branch was awarded both the Haigh Challenge Cup and the Jellico Cup in 1941.

(Our Standard today still shows these awards to the Branch)
