Wark

The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of Remembrance.

Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

Wark and District Branch attend the local Remembrance Day Church Service followed by acts of remembrance at Wark, Simonburn and Humshaugh War Memorials each year. The Church Service alternates between St Peter's in Humshaugh 2024, St Michael's Wark 2025 and St Mungo's, Simonburn 2026.

Two Silent Soldiers stand at Wark War Memorial. A 'weeping' display of poppies has been knitted by many folks in the community and is displayed in the Town Hall next to the WW1 Memorial Plaque during the year.

Every year pupils from Wark CofE Primary School attend the War Memorial at the Village Green on the Friday closest to 11th November and hold a Service of Remembrance and plant poppies.
