Poppy Appeal Volunteer Roles

We Need You to...

Collect:  this is obviously the most visible role – collecting in a supermarket for a couple of hours at a time. This will be between Sat 26 October and Sat 9 November.

We collect from 09.00am to 5.00pm. (10am to 4pm on Sundays) in Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

Distribute – Taking out poppy boxes and tins to schools, business and shops in the local area. This can be done at any time in the lead up to launch day on 26 Oct.

Tins and boxes will then need collecting in after 12 November.

This can take a couple of hours and is often easier in a team of two with a driver and assistant who can then drop off/collect.

Supervise – This role involves opening and closing a stand at one of the local supermarkets in Swadlincote Town Centre (Aldi, Morrisons or Sainsburys).

The Supervisor would prepare the stand just before 9am (10am on Sunday), making sure everything the volunteers need is available including a contactless payment terminal, collecting tins, merchandise etc.

They would get the first volunteers settled in and can then depart. There have however been occasions when volunteers have failed to turn up and they’ve needed to fill in so is best suited to someone who doesn’t have commitments.

Stands then close at 5pm (4pm on Sundays) – Any full collecting tins to Customer Service (Sainsbury’s and Morrisons) for counting. Re-stocking any items that are running low, checking for any messages and then covering the stand up until the next morning. The contactless terminal would also need to be taken home to re-charge overnight.
