Welcome to the latest edition The RBL Stourbridge Branch’s newsletter.
Many thanks the Old Edwardians Club for hosting our VE/VJ event last Saturday. Special thanks go to Ken Wright for his enthralling talk ‘World War 2 in 30 minutes’ and to Tim and his team for the wonderful spread and the excellent hospitality.
Last night saw the June monthly branch meeting, we had a healthy turnout and thanks to those who attended. Branch meetings are held, at The Old Edwardians Club, Drury Lane off Market Street, Stourbridge, on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 20.00, the next being 9th July, all members are welcome. There will be no meeting in August.
A reminder that our next social event is on Friday the 25th of July at 6.30 pm, when we have a skittles evening at the Queens Head Pub on Enville Street. Cost is £15 a head, to include a buffet, with proceeds going to the RBL and Branch. You are more than welcome to bring family and friends but must book a place prior to the event as numbers are limited. To book a place email [email protected] with ‘skittles’ in the subject line.
STOP PRESS! Our next Veterans’ Breakfast will be on Saturday 26th July, not in the autumn as previously advertised, this is an informal event where a group of likeminded people meet to enjoy a discounted breakfast, socialise and raise some money for charities through the raffle. If you are a veteran and have not previously attended, but would like to, please contact either myself or the Secretary.
We have secured a stand at Stourbridge Carnival on the 6th of July, outside Nicolls and Perks, so do pop along and say hello if you’re in the town.
Parkfield Grange Care Home, 31 Hagley Rd, Stourbridge, continue to welcome us hosting Veterans Coffee Mornings on the 2nd Tuesday and last Thursday of each month 10.30-12.00. The next few are the 24th of June and 8th July, all are welcome. Many thanks to Emily and her team.
Lastly, after many years of service to the RBL our secretary, Mick Sage, is off to pastures new. I’ll leave him to tell his own story, but he will be sorely missed by both the branch and the wider community of Stourbridge. We wish Mick all the best for the future. Diane Hartland has agreed to take up the mantle of secretary, but Mick remains the point of contact as Diane learns the ropes.
