Volunteer Roles

  1. Caseworker - Although this has largely the same function as the old welfare caseworker role, the revised role is enhanced to include a level of case management. The new Caseworker role requires IT skills and access to the internet, as Form A’s will be input online. The caseworker will be required to update CMS (Case Management System) online, undertake needs assessments using a new model, agree actions with the client, follow-up and assist in case management. Caseworkers will be able to recommend beneficiary grants of up to £250 which will be approved and administered at Case Officer level.

  1. Information Volunteer - This role will be based at the Advice and Information Centre in Derby or a secondary office or outreach location. The volunteer will carry out reception duties (meet and greet) and provide information on The Royal British Legion to anybody coming into our offices. The role will also involve helping people to access information from the Knowledge Base. These volunteers will also need to be IT literate and proficient at internet searching.

  1. Visitor Volunteer - This befriending and visiting role will attract volunteers who would like to visit and talk to beneficiaries who are housebound or in hospital. This is a role that does not require IT skills and provides an alternative for any current volunteers who may not have the same skills set as those who take on the caseworker or information volunteer roles. The aim is to have at least two for the Spondon, Ockbrook and Borrowash area as soon as the training is made available.

  1. Fundraising Roles - We are always looking for people to assist with the Poppy Appeal in the two weeks leading up to Remembrance Sunday (the closest Sunday to November 11th each year). If you would like to help us please contact the Branch or the Legion Helpline on 0808 8028080.
