ARMISTICE DAY 100 YEARS ON

To mark 100 years since the end of The Great War on 11 November 1918, at precisely 11.00am, the chimes and strikes of Big Ben in London, were relayed live to the assembled crowd in Cleckheaton Memorial Park.

The Service commenced at 10.45am with cadets from the 2490 Squadron ATC and Spen Valley Detachment Army Cadets lining the route into the park for the procession.

The Spenborough Branch Standard Bearer (acting) Martyn White led the procession followed by Branch Chaplain The Reverend Ray Borrett, The Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Lt Col Robin Smith, wreath party and bringing up the rear Parade Marshal and Branch Chairman, Mr Eddie Morton.

After Big Ben marked 11.00am, The Last Post was sounded and the Branch Chairman recited the Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph with two minutes silence between.

The Branch Chaplain conducted the Service which included hymns.

Wreaths were laid commencing with The Deputy Lieutenant on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, followed by Branch Vice Chairman Chris Wrightson on behalf of the Spenborough Branch.

The Service concluded after singing The National Anthem.
