ARMED FORCES DAY 2018

Armed Forces Day on Saturday 30 June 2018, was marked in Spenborough by an event in glorious sunshine in Cleckheaton Memorial Park.

The Principal Guests were The Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Squadron Leader David Dinmore MBE, DL, RAF (Rtd) accompanied by his wife Mrs Lorna Dinmore and Mr K Baker.

A short service was held on the top tier of the War Memorial with the Branch Chaplain Mr Terry Brewis officiating, assisted by The Reverend Ray Borrett of the Cleckheaton Central Methodist Church.

The Deputy Lieutenant gave a short address and then laid a wreath at the foot of the memorial. Other wreaths were laid by Mr K Baker of Kit Construction on behalf of the Royal British Legion Spenborough Branch and Mrs Sandra Garstang, Chaiman of the Women's Section, Spenborough Branch.

Mr K Baker was invited as a Principal Guest since his Company provided the access ramp to the top tier of the memorial as a gift to the people of Spenborough.

The Spenborough Branch of The Royal British Legion and the people of Spenborough as a whole are proud of our Armed Forces.
