On a bitterly cold day, the annual Remembrance Day Parade and Church Service was held in Cleckheaton Memorial Park and St John's Church, Cleckheaton.
Under direction from the Parade Marshal and Branch Chairman, Mr Eddie Morton, the parade left Church Street at the side of Cleckheaton Town Hall, led by the Emley Brass Band. Emley Band were invited back again, following superb marching accompaniment on previous occasions.
The Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Mr Gordon Tollefson CStJ, JP, DL, FRSPH, ACH, who is a great supporter of Legion events in Spenborough, represented Her Majesty The Queen.
Baroness Pinnock of Cleckheaton was in attendance representing The House Of Lords. The Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, Ms Tracy Brabin was with us for the second time and Kirklees Councillors, Andrew Pinnock, David Hall, John Lawson and Lisa Holmes represented the Local Authority.
Wreaths were laid by the dignitories including Branch Member Mr Paul Bird for The Royal British Legion, followed by many other organisations.
The re-formed parade passed around the Memorial, saluting and then marched back to the Town Hall.
The Church Service was held at St John's Church, Branch Chaplain Terry Brewis officiating.
Following the service, tea and biscuits were kindly provided by the Spenborough Branch of The Women's Section. The Branch Chairman has asked that his thanks be recorded again to the Women's Section and we are all grateful to the Churchwardens and past Branch Chaplain, Rev Brunel James for the use of St John's.
