This year, Armistice Day fell on a Saturday and this resulted in a larger than usual public attendance at the service in Cleckheaton Memorial Park.
The Army Cadets of the Spen Valley Detachment and Air Cadets of 2490 ATC Squadron provided a Guard of Honour for the Standard party and official guests, parading down from the north west corner of the park
Following a welcome by the Branch Chairman, Mr Eddie Morton, the service was again conducted by Spenborough Branch Chaplain, Mr Terry Brewis. He was assisted by Father Nicholas Hird from St Peter's Roman Catholic Church and also the Reverend Ray Borrett from the Central Methodist Church, attending one of our Branch events for the first time since his appointment to the Church.
The guest of honour was the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Major Ian Stoney TD, DL who gave the address.
Wreaths were laid and two minutes silence observed, together with the playing of the Last Post and Reveille.
We hope that by this time next year, we shall have the access ramp installed, so that less able guests will find it easier to get up to the top tier of the War Memorial.
