Spenborough

28 November 2015

The Spenborough Branch were invited to attend a Memorial Service at Grove United Reform Church in Gomersal, for a local man who lost his life in The Great War on this day, 28 November 1915.

The Service had been arranged by Mr Tony Dunlop of Project Bugle.

The congregation remembered Cpl Albert Preston Parkin, Royal Field Artillery. Although Cpl Parkin lived in Church Lane, Birstall and is remembered on the Batley War Memorial, he worshipped at Grove Chapel and was buried there.

Also remembered were two soldiers from our local Regiment, Cpl John Hubert Asquith and Pte George Dowson, 1/4th Duke of Wellingtons Regiment West Riding, both of whom died in 1915.
