Spenborough

The opening and dedication of the annual Spenborough Garden of Remembrance was held on 2 November 2015. This was a short service for personal acts of remembrance.

The Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Mrs Kate Moreton-Deakin was delayed due to the extremely foggy conditions and hold-ups on the counties motorways, but we were delighted to see her towards the end of the service.

The Branch Chaplain Mr Terry Brewis conducted the service, following a short introduction by the Branch Chairman, Mr Eddie Morton.

Local Councillor Mr Andrew Pinnock acted on behalf of the Deputy Lieutenant by placing the first cross, followed by Branch member Bill Gooch (late Royal Military Police) who laid a wreath on behalf on Spenborough Branch. Representing the Womens Section, Mrs Audrey Mills placed a cross and this was followed by Mrs Amy Robinson (Teacher) and the Head Boy and Head Girl from Howard Park Community School.

Branch members and members of the public were then invited to place their crosses. After Remembrance Sunday, the crosses will be removed and placed in the top tier of the War Memorial in Cleckheaton's Memorial Park.

A welcome cup of tea or coffee with biscuits was prepared by the Spenborough Branch Women's Section in St John's Church, Cleckheaton.
