Spenborough

4 October 2015

For the Spenborough Branch's 11th Annual Band Concert, an almost capacity audience was treated to a superb musical experience by The West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Band conducted by their Musical Director, Mr Lee Whitworth ATCL.

Held in Cleckheaton Town Hall, the concert was changed this year to the afternoon as opposed to the evening, which seemed to be a popular move.

Well known pieces and quite a number with a military theme were enjoyed, including the now traditional singing of Land and Hope and Glory. Another popular section was "Songs that won the Wars" and the audience singing was led by the talented Mrs Christine Emmott. Chistine is the tuba player in the band and has just been voted "Band Musician of the Year".

You don't get much for nothing nowadays, but this event is FREE. The original concert was put on 11 years ago as a thank you for the people of the Spen Valley for their support in the Poppy Appeal.
