Spenborough

The attendance at the Armistice Service has been growing year on year and has been many years since Spenborough' townspeople turned out in such numbers.

Several hundred people were present, together with 90 children from Litttletown J I & N school and 60 from Howard Park Community school and 2 classes from local nurseries (roped together for safety!).

To represent Her Majesty The Queen on this occasion, the Branch was delighted to welcome a regular visitor, The Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Mrs Kate Moreton-Deakin.

The Branch Standard was paraded to the top tier of Memorial and Branch Chairman, Mr Eddie Morton gave the introductions. The chimes and strikes of "Big Ben" were relayed live and two minutes silence was observed.

The Deputy Lieutenant laid a wreath on behalf of her Majesty The Queen.

Mr Paul Bird laid a wreath on behalf of The Royal British Legion.

Lady Shaw laid a wreath in remembrance of the Mowat family.

Children from Littletown J I & N school placed their own hand made poppies and children from Howard Park Community School placed Remembrance Crosses.

The Service was completed by two verses of The National Anthem.

The Branch is once again indebted to St Peters RC Church for the use of their hall for refreshments afterwards. The Branch Chairman also thanked the Women's Section - Spenborough Branch for providing the refreshments.
