ARMED FORCES WEEK 2011
FLAG RAISING IN SPENBOROUGH, 20 JUNE 2011

A beautiful summers day in Spenborough's Memorial Park, was the
setting for the Branches Flag Raising Ceremony to commemorate the
start of Armed Forces week.
The service was conducted by Father Peter Smith and the Armed
Forces Week Flag was raised by our principal Guest, Lord Shaw of
Northstead accompanied by Lady Shaw.
We were also delighted to have with us as our guests, around 25
children and their teachers from Year Two at Moorend Primary School
in Cleckheaton. The children made and sold chocolate recently and
donated the proceeds to the Branch.
Two children presented a wreath to the Branch President Mr Eric
Martin MBE to lay on the Memorial, following which he presented
each pupil and teacher with a Poppy lapel badge.
Photographs show Veterans answering the children's questions
about their medals and Military Service.
Ladies of the Spenborough Branch Womens Section again provided
tea, biscuits and delicious scones at the Catholic Hall directly
opposite the Memorial Park, for the use of which we are indebted
again to Father Peter Smith.
