Spenborough

The sombre tones of Big Ben chiming 11 o'clock relayed live to the crowds gathered round the Cleckheaton War Memorial, marked the start of the "Two Minutes Silence" observed by the people of Spenborough, for Remembrance Day 2011.

Shortly before, The Branch Standard had been paraded into the Memorial area.

After a welcome to our principal guests, Lord Shaw of Northstead JP and Lady Shaw the Branch Chairman Mr Eddie Morton gave a short opening address.

Rev Brunel James the Branch Chaplain, then conducted the Service and offered Prayers.

A wreath was placed by the Branch President Mr Eric Martin MBE and the singing of The National Anthem concluded the service.

Following dismissal of the Standard Parade, refreshments were kindly provided once again by The Royal British Legion Womens Section and were served in St Peter's Catholic Church Hall for which the Branch is again grateful.

Father Peter Smith from St Pauls would have been in attendance but he is in hospital at the moment and we all wish him well.
