Allan Serjeant is the Spenborough Branch Membership Secretary (2015) and is currently presiding over an increasing membership figure.
Starting work at the age of 15 as a printing apprentice, he was called up for National Service and joined ACC/REME. After training at Aldershot, Allan was posted to BAOR in Duisburg and travelled to exercises all over Germany.
In his own words, "When back at camp, I was Officers’ Mess Head Steward – out of barracks, own room, cushy job!"
Following National Service, Allan joined the Army Reserves for four years with 159 Bridge Coy, based in Bedford.
Returning to "civvy street," he spent around 14 years back in the printing business and was, for a while, the General Manager at Lakeside Lodge Restaurant, Wilton Park, Batley.
His spare time interests involved coaching and judging gymnastics, and he turned this into a full career for 26 years with Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre in Cleckheaton and Greenhead Gym Club in Huddersfield, where he became a Director.
Allan's Legion activities started at Birstall Branch in 1967, and in 2008 he joined the Spenborough Branch. His skills were quickly noted, and he was rapidly elected to the office of Membership Secretary.
