Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service
On Remembrance Sunday the Town remembers the fallen with its annual parade and Service of Remembrance.
2021 saw some modifications to the traditional Parade and Service. These were driven by Covid-19, but have become the standard for 2022 and 2023, as they were well received.
At 10.45 sharp the Town Band led the Shipston on Stour branch of the Royal British Legion from the High Street to St Edmund's followed by town and local dignitaries, High School senior prefects, Shipston Firefighters and youth groups. The Town Band's accompanying of the parade makes it a very splendid occasion to honour the memory of the Fallen.
The parade halts outside St Edmund's church where wreaths are laid, the names of the Shipston Fallen were read out by the senior prefects and the Two Minutes silence took place at 11.00. Those who wanted to go into St Edmund's did, with others returning to the High Street to watch proceeds on a big screen.
After the service the parade marches back to the High Street and falls out.
In 2021 the whole parade and service were streamed live enabling residents in our local care homes to join us and Charlie Cox was able to watch from the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
The parade could not take part without the help of the Clerk of the Town Council, Stour Valley Lions and the local Police who arrange and manage the closure of the roads. We offer them our sincere thanks for their assistance and support.
