A list of dates for your diary on what's happening in the Sedgeford & District Branch of The Royal British Legion is provided below.
BRANCH SOCIAL CALENDAR: The original idea of our monthly lunches was to encourage the Legion’s aims of company and comradeship, and to bring the “meetings” to the members. We meet in the bar in one of the many excellent hostelries around the branch area from 12 noon, on the first Friday of every month (unless it’s New Year or Easter, in which case an alternative date will be given). If you would like to bring a non-member spouse or guest, or a member of another branch, they will be made very welcome. If you wish to attend, please contact Pamela Austin in advance because advance booking is essential.
Well over half of our 70 plus members (that’s the number of them, not their ages!) now attend the monthly lunches at one time or another - thankfully not all together! - so why not join us for an informal chat and some company over the forthcoming months? You may find that you like it! The usual number at a lunch is between 25 and 30, there is no set menu, no seating plan, no dress code, no business (other than the occasional important announcement), and there is always a friendly atmosphere.
We do understand that some members will be unable, or unwilling, to attend events outside their own villages, but equally we hope that all members will at least support those which are organised locally to them. If you work but would like to participate more, let us know, and evening meetings will be arranged. Any other suggestions for social get-togethers will be considered positively: please send your ideas to any committee member. We may hold coffee mornings or evening get-togethers in the various village halls, which will put some funds into the local communities, as well as raising the profile of the branch, and, with any luck, recruiting some more members.
Please contact Pamela Austin on 01485 518033 if you wish to attend, as the Branch has to order meals in advance.

Those in bold - confirmed
With a total branch membership of around 70, we regularly attract 25 - 30 members to each lunch.
Any urgent branch business is carried out after members have enjoyed their lunch, but the branch members also receive a bi-monthly newsletter (SIX-NINETY NEWS), which in addition to the lunch list above also gives members local and national Legion information, as well as containing articles of general interest. This is also available by email - you just need to contact the Editor on 01485 518033 and you will be added to her distribution list.
The branch Annual General Meeting is held in October each year and is timed to coincide with the monthly lunch gathering.
THE FUTURE OF THE LEGION ?
An interesting snippet of information was gleaned when I was sorting out some articles for inclusion in our branch website: in issue 18 (2010), we reported that the number of Norfolk branches had reduced from 80 to less than 60 in two years – and currently - there are only 15 in the county!
