The Poppy Appeal in Salisbury 2024

24th October - 10th November 2024

Since its formation in 1921 the Royal British Legion has led the nation each year in commemorating and honouring those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

Additionally, each year in October and November, we distribute our Poppies to raise vital funds to help today's Armed Forces Community (both serving and retired).

The Royal British Legion has 33 Admiral Nurses supporting 1,700 beneficiaries with advice and support to live better with dementia. Its Care homes provide support to more than 800 people either as residents or attending day care. Over 29,000 grants were given last year, with over 6500 grants given for the necessities of food and housing. Case Managers worked on more than 40,000 cases last year supporting Armed Forces personnel and their families with essential needs such as food, maintenance to their homes and most sadly funeral costs. With rising costs funerals are extremely expensive and £600,000 in Funeral grants were provided last year ensuring all members of the Armed Forces Community received the tributes they deserve. The list goes on.

The need to support our Armed Forces continues unabated. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the end of Op HERRICK (combat operations in Afghanistan). an operation which affected yet another generation with all the horrific effects of Armed Conflict.

Here in Salisbury, the Armed Forces community came together again last year to support the City’s Poppy Appeal and collected a record breaking amount.
